Richard Olcott

建筑及其开放空间影响着人类活动,其空间布局则表现了人类互动的层次结构和动态。建筑的目的是为人类的生活、学习和互动创造一个有机体——一个全面立体的框架。无论是设计一个容纳杰出现代和当代艺术藏品的空间,还是优化演出效果的音乐厅,我所向往的建筑应与其内容和目的产生共鸣,并进一步加强,从而提高体验。唯有重视项目的特点,无论是总体目标、物质性还是具体细节,才能真正创造出令人难忘的地方。这也需要我们以对历史更加包容的态度,调查更好反映我们文化复杂性的新象征。这一点也适用于城市规划。我感兴趣的是,建筑如何通过吸收、转化和丰富现有的城市条件重新定义自身,从而烘托现有的环境,换句话说,可以更好地衬托,而非贬低城市历史元素的当代建筑。

Richard Olcott 是 Ennead Architects 的一名设计合伙人。Olcott 先生与其他设计合伙人一起为事务所制定设计标准,并指引未来的方向。他为教育、文化和民间机构所设计的作品屡获殊荣,以其建筑卓越性受到国际社会的认可。他的设计方法受三个核心追求的驱使:将当代建筑的探索视为创造空间和身份感的一种手段;当代建筑与历史元素或其他城市或校园环境的整合;倡导重要历史建筑和地区的保护。他设计的建筑能够在完工之初便充分表达自己的使命,并融入特定的背景中,同时避免公式化的语言或”风格”。


Olcott 先生曾获得康奈尔大学建筑、艺术与规划学院建筑学学士学位,并曾通过康奈尔大学的城市设计项目在伦敦AA建筑学校学习过一年。除了职业工作以外,Olcott 还在市政艺术协会担任董事会成员,同时也是该协会保护委员会的一员。Olcott 先生曾于 1996 年至 2007 年间在纽约市地标保护委员会任专员。他曾荣获 2003-04 年度罗马 American Academy 的 Founders Rome Prize Fellowship 奖。他是美国建筑师协会的一名杰出会员。
