World's Most Beautiful Campuses - Stanford University's Denning House

1604 Denning 18

Stanford University's Denning House has been recognized by Prix Versailles World Architecture and Design Award, which recognizes the role of exceptional architecture and design in beautifying and improving the living environment, in the Campuses category of their 2023 "World's Most Beautiful"  Architecture and Design Awards.

The Denning House creates a dedicated home for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program at Stanford University. Ennead Design Partner, Richard Olcott explains, "We thought of Denning House like a treehouse, a special retreat hidden away in the trees, but actually very much at the center of campus, and campus life."

The design features a gently curving, floating boardwalk that connects to a “front porch” and lobby space. A gracious shallow stair gradually reveals the expansive view. A sloped ceiling rises up towards the lake, creating a continuous flowing space along the arcing façade, and out to a continuous deck along the lake.
