Cathedral School, St. John the Divine

Ennead’s ongoing work at The Cathedral School of St. John the Divine includes interior and exterior renovations as well as the transformation of the historic campus. An initial Master Plan has become the strategic framework for the School’s ongoing efforts over both the short and long term to renovate, improve and expand its existing facility.

Renovation work to date has included the modernization of classrooms, assembly spaces, kitchen, dining hall and the main lobby, as well as repairs and improvements to various building systems. The work has transformed underutilized spaces within the building and has created a language of interior finishes and details that accentuates the character of the existing historic architecture.

The School’s long-term plans include an Arts Center in the Crypt of the Cathedral, in which art and music studios and a 200-seat theater will be constructed within the unique setting of exposed massive granite foundations and arched Guastavino-tile vaulted ceilings.
