With teaching spaces directly adjacent to research spaces, organized around a common core on each floor, the dual Cockrell School mission to educate tomorrow’s engineers while conducting groundbreaking research is on display throughout the building.

The project, located on the northwest side of the UT Austin Campus, helps the Cockrell School of Engineering establish a new multidisciplinary approach to the energy sciences by mixing research and teaching in Petroleum and Geosystems, Chemical, and Mechanical Engineering. The lab facility also sets a new standard for energy research by serving as a mixing chamber for the various disciplines.

The EEB will provide approximately 184,300 gross square feet of engineering and research space on six levels, to replace the existing Woolrich Labs on 24th Street for the Cockrell School of Engineering (CSE). The multidisciplinary building will house classrooms, labs and project spaces to connect UT students, faculty, researchers and industry partners.

The EEB houses select teaching and research components from four departments focused on energy engineering, including Environmental Engineering teaching labs and six floors of wet labs. North Bridge: includes an art installation and connects the building to the EERC to complete the engineering corridor.

EEB will provide cutting-edge labs and classrooms, student project spaces and collaborative environments in which students and faculty members in petroleum, chemical and mechanical engineering disciplines can work together to develop the energy industry solutions of the future. Showcase labs: Included in the building is a special “showcase lab”, which is a state-of-the-art high-temperature lab space that will enable the Cockrell community to explore new frontiers in research innovation. With it’s abundant glasswork, the research space will be on display for visitors to learn about the research taking place.

The GLT provides cutting-edge labs and classrooms, student project spaces and collaborative environments in which students and faculty members in petroleum, chemical and mechanical engineering disciplines work together to develop the energy industry solutions of the future. Included in the building is a special “showcase lab”, which is a state-of-the-art high-temperature lab space that enables the Cockrell community to explore new frontiers in research innovation. Also included in the building is an inviting lounge and lecture hall that feature floor-to-ceiling windows that will serve as a state-of-the-art community gathering venue.
