We are excited to share that two Ennead projects have been recognized by AIA National with Awards of Excellence.

Shanghai Astronomy Museum

Shanghai Astronomy Museum has been recognized by AIA National with an Award of Excellence in Architecture.

The monumental new museum creates an immersive experience that places visitors in direct engagement with real astronomical phenomena. Through scale, form, and the manipulation of light, the building heightens awareness of our fundamental relationship to the sun and the earth’s orbital motion. At 420,000 square feet, the new astronomical branch of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum will be the largest museum worldwide solely dedicated to the study of astronomy.

Drawing inspiration from astronomical principles, the design invokes the experience of orbital motion. The building’s three principal forms – the Oculus, the Inverted Dome, and the Sphere – act as functioning astronomical instruments, tracking the sun, moon, and stars and reminding visitors that our conception of time originates in distant astronomical objects.

The AIA National Architecture Award celebrates the best of contemporary architecture. It recognizes outstanding work and highlights how the built environment can improve our lives.

Jefferson Health Honickman Center

The Jefferson Health Honickman Center has been recognized by AIA National with an Award of Excellence in Healthcare Design.

The Honickman Center is a 19-story Outpatient Specialty Care Facility that transforms care with a seamless, patient-focused experience—integrating evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment with centralized access to care and supportive amenities. The design exemplifies how large healthcare facilities can integrate into urban environments, fostering community engagement and providing clear, and navigable access to care. Clinical spaces leverage technological advances to optimize patient-provider interaction. The facility provides a unique ‘high-touch’ and high-tech experience for patients where their needs are always at the center of care.

Jefferson Health partnered with National Real Estate Development, LLC to develop the Honickman Center. Designed by Ennead Architects, the building engages with the surrounding neighborhood, provides centralized care, and establishes an innovative architectural identity for Jefferson. Stantec oversaw the interior design of the clinical floors while BLTa of Philadelphia was responsible for the design of the below-grade garage and the site improvements for the project.

The AIA National Healthcare Design Awards recognize innovative projects in healthcare design & planning that solve aesthetic, civic, urban, and social problems while also being functional and sustainable.
